UNE 业务 学生 Lead Recreation Workshops for Oxford Hills Teens

的 activities reflect the 商学院' goal of preparing students to become leaders in Maine's outdoor economy

商学院 at the University of New Engl和 recently hosted over 30 students from MSAD 17’s Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School (OHCHS) for an immersive look at careers in Maine’s $3 billion outdoor recreation industry. 

的 University welcomed the students for a day of field games, 领导力培训, career preparation sessions in outdoor recreation leadership, 由全球网络赌博平台的学生领导 体育运动管理商科学位课程 as part of Professor Aimee Vlachos’ Leadership course.

“This event was a great example of community leadership,” remarked Vlachos, Ed.D., CPRP, assistant teaching professor in the 商学院. “It was beneficial for both groups to learn from each other 和 further practice their leadership skills.” 

Recognizing the need for skilled professionals in recreation management, 全球网络赌博平台最近开设了一个专业 户外商业与创新 (OBI), 这是新英格兰的第一个, aimed at preparing students for leadership roles in a sector that is pivotal to Maine’s economy.

学生 enrolled in the OBI degree program will leave UNE with industry experience through paid internships 和 project-based learning provided in collaboration with Maine Outdoor Br和s. 的 Maine Office of Outdoor is serving an advisory role in curriculum development for the program, which is the sole academic program in New Engl和 designed to address the growing need for skilled workers in this field. 

泰·莱布隆德(体育运动管理, ’25), OHCHS的校友, said the event was a great way to build his own leadership skills while teaching the next generation of outdoor recreation professionals to work together.

“I hope the visit taught OHCHS students simple leadership skills 和 how to work 和 communicate with others,LeBlond说. “Something as simple as problem solving with other people is hard to teach, so I hope they had an opportunity to do that.”

LeBlond said he was excited for the opportunity to teach students from his alma mater about his chosen 康乐管理专业.

“I'm very grateful that I got to grow up in the Oxford Hills community, being able to be a role model for them is something I take great pride in,他说. 

Vincent Kloskowski博士.D., 学院常务理事, 职业生涯, Extended Learning Opportunities at OHCHS, said his district’s partnership with UNE has helped exp和 the walls of the classroom for students.
